It may have been a very British tea party, but an American actress ended up stealing the show at this afternoon's annual BAFTA event.

Michelle Williams looked stunning in a black and white Victoria Beckham designed dress, which she teamed with black Chanel heels and a geometric bag.
The 31-year-old actress, who has been nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in My Week With Marilyn, wore subtle make-up at the event, held at the Four Seasons Hotel.

The event is held every year by BAFTA LA to honour award nominees and British talent.
Meryl Streep, who has been nominated for her role as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady posed with Leonardo Di Caprio, who is also in the running for Best Actor for film biopic J Edgar.

The Oscar-winning actress looked smart in a red blouse and trousers, while DiCaprio wore a grey suit.

Viola Davis, who beat Streep to the Best Actress gong at the recent Critics Choice Awards for her role in The Help, looked stunning in a simple light blue long sleeved dress.
At tomorrow's Golden Globes ceremony, she will be up against Rooney Mara for the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Glen Close for Albert Nobbs, Streep and Tilda Swinton for We Need To Talk About Kevin.

Actress Berenice Bejo arrived to drum up support for her film The Artist which recently won Best Film at the Critics Choice awards

Bejo looked chic in a cream short sleeved number which she paired with matching shoes and a bright orange bag.
Meanwhile, Evan Rachel Wood whose film The Ides of March has been nominated in the Best Drama film category, opted for an edgier ensemble of patterned shirt open to reveal a black bra, and a red pencil skirt.
Hit British TV series Downton Abbey also had a representative in Elizabeth McGovern, who arrived sporting a purple floral number and black bag.

Jane Seymour looked equally bright in a red knee-length dress with silver shoes.
Up and coming actresses Chloe Moretz and Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke also stepped out in the Los Angeles gloom for some tea and cake, with Chloe sporting an unusual mustard and black ensemble.
Clarke, 24, stuck to a more conventional white pretty lace outfit with electric blue sandals.

The Artist was also represented by French actor Jean Dujardin, who plays a silent movie star in the critically acclaimed movie.
Thor actor Chris Hemsworh looked dapper in black and grey while Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson plumped for an outlandish checked suit.

There was also a strong British presence with War Horse stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Jeremy Irvine, with Sir Ben Kingsley also stepping out on the carpet.
